How artificial intelligence affects the financial world will be the topic of a lecture Tuesday at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

Dr. Michael Wellman, a professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Michigan, will present "When Algorithms Trade: Artificial Intelligence Meets Finance" as part of the Program for Learning and Community Engagement lecture series.

"We are excited to bring such a distinguished scholar in the field of computer science. Dr. Wellman's research on the impact of artificial intelligence systems to market trading has tremendous implications to e-commerce and the future of the industry," said Dr. Corrine Hinton, A&M-Texarkana associate professor of history and chairwoman of the PLACE program, in a news release.

Wellman is the University of Michigan's Lynn A. Conway Collegiate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering. He is also associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Engineering. He studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and served four years as a research scientist at the Air Force's Wright Laboratory before joining the Michigan faculty in 1992.

PLACE is a faculty-led program designed to create a community of learners comprising A&M-Texarkana students, faculty, staff and the community at large.

This year's theme is "science and technology."
