Android founder says AI is the future of computing

Artificial intelligence will be at the heart of the next big wave of computing, says former Android man Andy Rubin.
Rubin co-founded the Android OS in 2003, sold it to Google in 2005, then headed up its ascent to becoming the biggest mobile OS in the world. After leaving his post in 2013 he worked in robotics, before leaving Google altogether.
That's quite a decade. When such a man talks about the future of computing, then, it's generally a good idea to listen.
That's just what Rubin has been doing at the Code/Mobile conference. Talking to veteran tech journalist Walt Mossberg, Rubin revealed that he believed AI would form the basis of the next big phase in computing.
Asked what the next big thing after mobile would be, Rubin claimed that mobile was here to say in terms of having a screen on you at all times. Broadening things out, however, Rubin predicted that "there is some form of AI, for lack of a better term, that will be the next computing platform."
Though he believes it could take in excess of 20 years, Rubin said that robotics were going to permeate our lives, pointing out that his definition of 'robot' includes things like traffic lights and dish washers. Basically, any machine that does a job that a human used to do.
"The thing that’s gonna be new is the part of the cloud that's forming the intelligence from all the information that's coming," he said.
