Either theoretical or applied, computer science is of utmost importance in the ICT space.

Computer science refers to the studying and development of computing systems and networks.

There are two main areas of computer science: theoretical and applied.

In the theoretical vertical, scientists look into the theory of computation, information and coding theory, formal methods of computation, programming language theory, information and coding theory, and so on.

On the applied side, disrupting technologies like AI are taking into account. In addition, applied computer science looks at computer architecture, engineering, performance, analysis, security, cryptography and so on.
Most would think computer science started when computers were invented. However, historians say the discipline goes as far back as the Mesopotamian period, between 2700-2300 BC, when the Sumerian abacus was invented.

Fast forwarding to the 17th century, computer science took more of a close shape to what it is today when Blaise Pascal built a mechanical calculator in 1642.

May calculators and other inventions after, in the 1940s, computing machines became a reality and with it computer science as we know it today started.

Since then, computer science has had a key role in the digital revolution, algorithmic trading, AI and many others
