Workers with STEM skills ― science, technology, engineering and math ― are among the hottest commodities right now in the job market, LinkedIn says, so count yourself lucky if you're a strong digital, or even an old-school analog, engineer.

LinkedIn posed the question: "Who's getting hired and what are they doing?" After analyzing more than 330 million LinkedIn member profiles, it has compiled a list of the 25 skills most likely to have caught the attention of a recruiter in the past year.

Investment in STEM skills comprised the majority of its top 25 list in 10 of the countries LinkedIn examined.

Businesses around the world are eagerly adding experts in data storage, retrieval and analysis to their teams. Cloud and distributed computing skills were prized particularly in the U.S., India and France, LinkedIn said.

As companies operate across many nations' borders, the internationalization trend is lifting demand for workers fluent in a second language. Translation skills were especially needed this year in the United Sates, where just 18% of Americans claimed to speak a language other than English as of 2010, LinkedIn said, quoting U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

Demand also appears to be growing for workers with marketing skills in digital, online and search-engine optimization, the research showed.
