Google is Hiring… an SEO Specialist… Source: Aaron Richardson
That’s probably the most confusing headline of my n3rdabl3 career. The company who creates the algorithm used to determine whether your website ranks well in their Search Engine, is searching for an SEO Specialist to ensure they rank well in their own search engines??
SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is the gruelling task of following a series of webmaster guidelines, keyword research, and other often laborious and menial tasks to ensure your website ranks well on search engines such as Google or Bing. It’s a colossal pain in the ass as Google often update their algorithms to “improve” search engine results.
So excuse me if I find Google’s latest job listings a little odd. Perhaps they’ve gotten to the point where their own algorithm confuses them just as much as everyone else.
The job description is as follows:
As a Program Manager for Technical SEO, you will work with cross-functional teams across Marketing, Sales, Product Development, Engineering and more to help drive organic traffic and business growth. You will take part in website development and optimization, help shape blog and social strategy, improve website code hygiene and define web architecture for international websites.
Now, Google has come under a fire from various governing bodies for favouring their own services in search engine results over other, similar services. So there’s a possibility that this is just a placeholder position to pull the wool over the eyes of regulators. But still, it’s darn confusing.
Though imagine the job offers you’d receive if you were hired to do the SEO for Google of all companies.
