FBI Director James Comey Is Miffed With Google And Apple

Apparently FBI Director James Comey is less than happy with both Google and Apple for recently making their mobile operating systems less hackable by the government. Apple’s iOS 8 is now encrypted to the point that only the user can access any information on the phone and Google’s Android L operating system is reported to be doing the same. With users more concerned about privacy and the NSA and government agencies breathing down their necks, both Google and Apple decided the consumer was more important than big brother. Here’s a little of what Director Comey had to say.

“There will come a day C well it comes every day in this business C when it will matter a great, great deal to the lives of people of all kinds that we be able to with judicial authorization gain access to a kidnapper’s or a terrorist or a criminal’s device,” he apparently told a press conference.

“I just want to make sure we have a good conversation in this country before that day comes. I’d hate to have people look at me and say, ‘Well how come you can’t save this kid,’ ‘How come you can’t do this thing.'”

“I am a huge believer in the rule of law, but I am also a believer that no one in this country is above the law,” Comey moaned today.

“What concerns me about this is companies marketing something expressly to allow people to place themselves above the law.”

The Register says that Comey is in talks with both Google and Apple concerning their new found direction towards protecting the users of their operating systems but nothing is clear on what has been said. Many believe that there has to be ways to collar criminals but we must also protect innocent people from being spied on without knowing it. Google and Apple have taken a first step that many think was the right step. What do you think of Director Comey’s remarks? Let us know in the comments below or on Google+, Facebook and Twitter.
