California Revenge porn operator sent to prison for 18 years

A revenge porn website operator has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, the first kind of the prosecution in the U.S. California’s attorney Gneneral Kamala D. Harris stated that the accused was found guilty on six counts of extortion and 21 counts of identity theft.hackers
Kevin Christopher Bollaert (27) of San Diego was arrested in December 2013 and was found guilty in February, this year. The move comes after, U.S regulators decision to stop revenge porn, which involves posting user’s photos without their permission, and blackmailing them for payment, to take it down. The ruling is will act as a warning to other revenge porn operators in the country.
IOn January, the Federal Trade Commission arrested Craig Brittain, operator of isanybodydown.com for trying to extort money anywhere between $200 to 5000 from women. The images were obtained from them under false promises. Th case was settled with the FTC and Brittian was required to permanently delete the site, content and personal information he received.
Attorney Harris stated that Bollaert extorted fees anywhere between $250 to $350 from women, for taking down the images. Bollaert has exploited the personal details like Facebook account, full name, age, place of work that he collected from his ugotposted.com website. Another owner of a similar site Casey E. Meyering of Tusla, Oklahoma was arrested by Harris’s agents and was charged with five felony extortion counts. He was arrested in February and is awaiting trail on June 8.
U.S agents have already started to clamp down on revenge porn operators and have been asked to surrender the site and all the amount that were received during its operation. Bollaert is the first person to be jailed for 18 years in revenge porn case. Most revenge porn operators are likely to delete their own websites, in order to avoid further trouble.
