Interview with the Algorithm: When Facebook 'likes' aren Source: Alex Dalenberg
The UpTake: Mat Honan's piece in Wired about "liking" everything on Facebook is a great example of a new genre of reporting on algorithms.
But, as Sandvig writes, "Facebook has defined 'like' in ways that depart from English usage," so perhaps the whole definition is up in the air, which is something to think about in itself.
Sandvig also presented at a recent talk at Harvard's Berkman Center Internet and Society about how researchers are attempting to deconstruct algorithms like Facebook's newsfeed, the inner-workings of which are closely-guarded as proprietary secrets.
