Dallas-based telecom giant AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) reportedly sent a letter to about 1,600 customers notifying them that an employee gained unauthorized access to their personal information.
The reported breach came in August, according to Bloomberg, and could include social security numbers, driver’s license number and information on the services they purchased from the network giant. The employee has since left, the letter reportedly said.
“Unfortunately, we recently learned that one of our employees did not follow our strict privacy rules and inappropriately obtained some customer information,” Mark Siegel, AT&T spokesman for AT&T, wrote in an email to Bloomberg. “This individual no longer works at AT&T and we are directly contacting the limited number of affected customers.”
