Apple Pay was launched in the United States on Monday. It allows iPhone users to use their phone for purchases instead of credit/visa cards.
The new payment scheme is partnered with 220,000 different locations. It will work with the newest iPhone models. According to Xinhua News Agency, Cook was quoted saying: "China is really a key market for us, everything we do, and we are going to work it here. Apple Pay is on top of the list."
The new payment system is easy and secure and can be accessed through the use of Touch ID.
"Our team has worked incredibly hard to make Apple Pay private and secure, with the simplicity of a single touch of your finger," said Eddy Cue Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services.
Cook was not the only CEO out in China trying to help business efforts in the country.
Last Wednesday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg spent time in China in an effort to show the Chinese just how interested Facebook was in entering their market. The social media kingpin spoke in Chinese for half an hour at a forum at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
"Hello everyone. Thanks for coming," he told the group. "I'm very glad to be in Beijing. I love this city. My Chinese is really a mess, but I study using Chinese every day." His Chinese was truly not that bad. Nonetheless, his first words were received with celebration.
In regards to Zuckerberg's plans in China, the Facebook CEO answered by saying "We help Chinese companies increase foreign customers, they use Facebook ads to find more customers".
"We want to help other places in the world connect to China," he said.
