iPad 3 release date delayed to 2012: Retina display FAIL Source: IT Blogwatch
t looks like the iPad 3 release date is delayed until 2012. If you're waiting for it, you probably shouldn't hold your breath. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is said to have delayed its plans until some time next year, thanks to problems with its retina display. In IT Blogwatch, bloggers throw their toys out the pram in frustration.
Your humble blogwatcher curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment. Not to mention: the French Android tablet with "disabled multitouch"...
Eric Mack reports, using the C-word:
The 2011 launch of the iPad 3...[is] canceled.
        ...
[It's] been pushed back because of a shortage of high-resolution screens. ... The so-called "retina display" would double the resolution of the current iPad.
        ...
[T]here may also be issues with getting the light source to work [satisfactorily]. ... There may be no need for Apple to rush out the next-generation iPad anyhow, with...iPad 2 sales continuing at a brisk pace.

Yenting Chen and Joseph Tsai broke the story:
Apple has recently canceled its iPad 3 supply schedule.
        ...
Apple was originally set to launch its iPad 3 in the second half of 2011...but Apple's supply chain partners have recently discovered that the...figures have all already been deleted, the sources [said].
        ...
[The] yield rate of the 9.7-inch panel [with] resolution of 2,048 by 1,536 may be the major reason for the supply delay. ... Sources...also pointed out that the...high resolution [LCD panel] requires a much larger backlight source [conflicting with] requirements over the physical thinness, rich color support and toughness.
Jared Newman quibbles about semantics:
It's not really fair to call this a delay because...Apple never announced anything. The product...only appeared in rumors. ... Last we heard, Apple was planning to position [it] as a high-end option for photo and video professionals.
        ...
This isn't a huge setback for Apple. Last quarter, the company was "still selling every (iPad) we could make." ... Apple finally caught up with demand earlier this month.
        ...
I'm sure there will be plenty more rumors...along with additional rumors to refute those rumors, of course.        M0RE
But Jonny Evans just laughs:
Apple's army of fortune tellers have been merrily insisting Apple will ship [iPad 3] this year. ... Of course, it isn't going to...iPad 2 is doing fine right now. ... I doubt the iPad 3 was ever scheduled to ship at this time.
        ...
[C]ompeting firms are unlikely to come back with a serious alternative for a good six months...by that time, Apple will dazzle and surprise with [iPad 3] that does things no one else has thought of.
        ...
[W]hen it comes to non-Apple tablets, all I can smell is toast.
And Jack Schofield didn't believe the 2011 rumors, either:
Apple's standard...technique is to produce annual iterations of products so that keen users will buy a new version every year. ... Since the iPad 2 only appeared in March...the iPad 3 shouldn't be expected until March 2012. [And] announcing an iPad 3 this year...might hurt Christmas sales of the iPad 2.
