iPad killer on hold until Windows 8 Source: Trent Nouveau
A prominent J.P. Morgan analyst doesn’t believe the mobile market will be capable of fielding an iPad killer until Windows 8 tablets arrive in late 2012.
According to Mark Moskowitz, Apple "continues to dominate and enjoy the lion's share” of the tablet space.
Analyst: iPad killer on hold until Windows 8"Beyond the iPad, there has not been another high-volume tablet offering - yet," the analyst opined in an investor’s note obtained by AppleInsider.
"We are still awaiting the emergence of a clear number two player, though this may not happen until the launch of Windows 8 in 2H 2012."
However, Moskowitz did acknowledge that a rumored Amazon tablet could be an interesting device which may help bolster the non-Apple tablet market with its "brand name, content and distribution capabilities."
In any case, says Moskowitz, non-iPad tablets will be forced to compete fiercely for second place, which will likely prompt the average selling price in the tablet market to decline 12.1% in 2011 and an additional 7.2% in 2012.
Moskowitz also raised his estimates for tablet shipments in 2011 to 51.9 million units - based primarily on the iPad’s wild popularity.
