O RLY? 'Android ahead of iPhone,' says Schmidt Source: Richi Jennings
Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Chairman Eric Schmidt says that Android phones are already ahead of Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone, and that developers will soon prefer to build apps for Android than for iOS. In IT Blogwatch, bloggers wax skeptical.
Your humble blogwatcher curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment. Not to mention: A holiday Venn diagram...
Stephen Shankland reports de la belle France:
"Android is ahead of the iPhone now," Schmidt declared...at the LeWeb conference...the audience met his words with a moment of silence that implied some skepticism.
        ...
Schmidt thinks the high volume of Android phone shipments will win out...aided by the release of...Android 4.0. ... About 200 million Android phones have gone into use...with 550,000 new ones being activated daily, Schmidt said.        M0RE

Paul Rachwal's anonymous gnomes add:
Developers will [soon] start focusing on Android first instead of iOS...Google chairman Eric Schmidt said..."My prediction is that six months from now you'll say the opposite."
        ...
Android 4.0 is expected to help developers...by letting them write for both phones and tablets with mostly similar expectations. ... It further brings in a raft of new programming interfaces for developers to tap into...calendar, social information, and low-level media access.        M0RE
But Matthew Panzarino ain't so sure:
The knee-jerk reaction is to call the comments ridiculous and blow them off. But lets take a look at...the numbers.
        ...
Schmidt isn’t completely blowing smoke...decent apps can charge a decent amount and still get snapped up. ... [But] probably the biggest problem with Schmidt’s proclamations...[is that] Android tablets are failing to gain a toehold and there are few signs that this will change.
        ...
Schmidt’s statements appear to carry little weight beyond bluster...unless something about Ice Cream Sandwich just blows the doors off of the market.        M0RE
And Jonny Evans looks ahead:
Apple's 2012 quad-core iPhone 5 promises power and performance no...Android device can ever hope to match.
        ...
Android is rusty. Instructions lag because the UI side of the "experience" is based on legacy code. ... That imperfect user experience at least in part accounts for the abject failure of Android tablets. ... And since the essence of the smartphone experience is the user interface, this is why Apple's iPhone 5 will be so dangerous.        M0RE
So, Ronald O. Carlson вас похороним:
In other words, he’s saying, “We will bury you.”
        ...
This is a new and interesting twist on Google’s policy of openness. Golly, that Eric Schmidt is always worth...a laugh….        M0RE
Meanwhile, Daniel Cooper snickers:
At which point, everyone in the audience probably went back to their iPads to read Twitter.
